Smart homeowners are recognizing the many benefits of energy-efficient, eco-friendly metal roofing. In fact, metal roofing is now the second most popular re-roofing product in the U.S. The federal government recently extended a $500 tax credit through the end of 2020 for qualified metal roofing products. American Metal Roofs offers several roofs that qualify for energy efficiency tax credits. Not all metal roofs qualify. This tax credit is for ENERGY STAR certified products that use up to 30% less energy in your home. ENERGY STAR certified products are independently certified to save energy, save money and protect the environment.
The $500 credit has a lifetime cap. To use it this year on an approved metal roof, the homeowner cannot have used it in the past on new windows, doors, insulation or other Energy Star certified products and the roof must be installed by the end of 2020.
Ask for a copy of the Manufacturer Certification Statement for the product installed on your roof. This is a signed statement from the manufacturer certifying that the metal roof qualifies for the tax credit. You’ll need it when you file your taxes, along with IRS Form 5695.
